GFOA & IPWEA Concepts in Infrastructure Financial Management
Capital assets are the largest investments for most governments: from planning, to financing, to construction, to operations, maintenance, and replacement. Therefore, making generational investments and maintaining capital infrastructure at the desired levels of service requires thought and study from multiple stakeholders. Infrastructure Financial Management is the marriage of Capital Planning and Asset Management. This asynchronous class is an introduction to these concepts and provides a starting place for the work of planning and management of the enterprise wide capital needs of your government. This course will walk you through examples using best practices in Capital Planning and Asset Management planning which includes many of the common challenges associated with longitudinal investments in existing assets including the processes and decision making needed to maintain capital infrastructure in the condition necessary to preserve and enhance your community’s vitality and quality of life and optimal stewardship of the finite resources of the jurisdiction.
