Basics of Project Accounting
Date and Time:
Jul 30 2020 - 2:00pm to 4:00pm EDT
Program Description:
Project accounting is a critical part of governmental accounting. Almost all public sector organizations have a responsibility to build infrastructure, maintain assets, track grant projects, or account for the costs and revenues of special “projects” or "initiatives.” Project accounting can also be a challenge for governments because of the complex nature of capital projects, detailed grant reporting or eligibility requirements, the uncertain or ad-hoc nature of some projects, or the fact that stakeholders across multiple departments are involved in the coordination of financial activity. In this session, speakers will discuss the basics of project accounting including definitions, how to account for the components of a project, techniques for using your financial system effectively, and common financial reporting considerations. In addition, speakers will provide a quick overview of example projects to explain key points.
